How Do I Enter a Stock Gift Donated Directly to Our Brokerage Account?
Last updated: September 9, 2026
You might be wondering what to do if your organization is enrolled in Overflow’s stock liquidation services, but a donor gives stock directly to your organization’s brokerage account instead. In this case, you can still document the gift in your Overflow Dashboard using the Gift Entry tool.
By using the Gift Entry tool, you can ensure your records remain accurate, with no processing fees incurred. This will also help maintain the donation’s tax-deductibility and allow the donor to be properly acknowledged.
How to Enter the Stock Gift
- 💻 Navigate to the Gift Entry tool in your Dashboard.
- 🧾 Enter the donor’s name, donation date, and select the appropriate gift designations.
- 💵 Add the gift amount.
- Since this gift was given directly to your brokerage account, Overflow does not have visibility into its liquidated value.
- While we are not able to offer financial or accounting advice, we recommend checking with your Financial Advisor to confirm the appropriate gift amount for your records.
- 🗂️ Choose “Other” as the Contribution Type.
- 📝 In the Additional Notes section, include the number of shares, ticker symbol(s), etc.
